Diabetes-Related Foot Disease Affects 55 Million in Western Pacific, New Review Reveals Significant Burden

A comprehensive review published in The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific highlights that approximately 55 million people in the Western Pacific region are currently living with diabetes-related foot disease. This condition, encompassing peripheral neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, ulceration, infection, gangrene, or amputation, is identified as the single largest contributor to the global diabetes disease burden. The study, conducted by 24 researchers from 13 countries, also points to strikingly uneven care systems across the region.
