New York Confirms First Local Borrelia mayonii Case

New York State has reported its first locally acquired infection of Borrelia mayonii, a less common cause of Lyme disease, in a resident with no travel history. This also marks the first detection of the pathogen in New York ticks. Previously, this tick-borne illness was only identified in Minnesota and Wisconsin, indicating a potential expansion of its geographic range.
