Early Statin Use Linked to 15% Lower Dementia Risk in Type 2 Diabetes Patients

A large nationwide Danish study of over 132,000 individuals with type 2 diabetes found that those who started statin treatment within a year of diagnosis had a 15% lower relative risk of developing dementia over a decade compared to those who did not. The research, presented at ESC Congress 2026 and published in The Lancet Regional Health - Europe, suggests a potentially important reason to ensure timely statin treatment for type 2 diabetes patients with high LDL-C.
