U.S. Medical Societies Release Independent Guidance for 2026-2027 COVID-19, Flu, and RSV Vaccinations

Amidst ongoing uncertainty from the CDC regarding new recommendations, several major U.S. medical organizations have issued their own evidence-based guidance for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season. The American Medical Association (AMA), in conjunction with the Vaccine Integrity Project, released an evidence review in a JAMA article supporting the safety and efficacy of immunizations against influenza, COVID-19, and RSV. Other groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Infectious Diseases Society of America, have also provided updated recommendations. Generally, seasonal flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months and older, with enhanced vaccines advised for older adults. Specific COVID-19 and RSV recommendations vary by age and risk.
