China Unveils Five-Year Plan to Enhance Eye Care Services by 2030

China's health authorities have announced a comprehensive five-year plan aimed at expanding access to eye care services nationwide. The initiative focuses on addressing childhood myopia, managing cataracts prevalent among seniors, and bolstering eye care capabilities in rural areas. Key goals for 2030 include increasing refraction screening rates for children, improving awareness of refractive error care for the elderly, and raising the cataract surgery rate to over 4,000 operations per 1 million people. The plan also seeks to increase the number of ophthalmologists and optometrists and ensure most county-level hospitals have ophthalmology departments.
