UK Health Agency Advises University Students on Elevated Meningitis B Risk

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a warning to university students regarding a heightened risk of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia, particularly Meningitis B. The agency noted that 97% of invasive meningococcal disease cases in 15-24 year olds in England during 2025-2026 were MenB, and university students face a seven times higher risk. UKHSA urges first-year students to receive two doses of the MenB vaccine before term starts to mitigate this risk.
