CDC Merges Divisions to Form New Respiratory Viruses Unit

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is merging its Influenza Division with the Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Diseases Division. This organizational restructuring creates the new Influenza and Respiratory Viruses Division (IRVD), a move planned since the Biden administration. The consolidation aims to enhance operational efficiency in preventing disease, disability, and death from seasonal epidemics and pandemic respiratory viral diseases through streamlined surveillance, support for state and local entities, and improved diagnostics, vaccines, and treatments.
