Congress Funds Major Health Study for Children Exposed to 9/11 Attacks

Congress has funded a major health study, overseen by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to track chronic illnesses in children who were living or attending school near the World Trade Center on and after September 11, 2001. This initiative aims to address gaps in previous government-funded studies, which primarily focused on adult first responders and survivors, and will track potential long-term health risks, including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and reproductive health outcomes, as these individuals reach their 30s and early 40s. The CDC is currently seeking applications from researchers to establish a World Trade Center Youth Research Coordinating Center and identify a Youth Research Cohort, with participants being 21 years old or younger, or in utero, and living in specific areas of Manhattan or Brooklyn on and after 9/11.
