The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a health alert following a nationwide increase in human rabies exposures. The advisory, released on September 10, notes a 17% rise in rabies-related inquiries from July to August 2026 compared to the previous year, including reports of mass exposure events. Rhode Island also reported a potentially rabid bat observed in Roger Williams Park Zoo, with the incident reported to the Rhode Island Department of Health on September 11.
