CDC Plans Major Study on Long-Term Health Effects of 9/11 Exposure in Children

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is initiating a significant research effort to investigate the long-term health impacts on children and young people exposed to the 9/11 attacks. This study will focus on individuals aged 21 or younger, including those exposed in utero, in Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn during and after the World Trade Center attacks. This initiative aims to address a 25-year gap in research, as most previous studies have concentrated on adults. The CDC has identified respiratory, reproductive, mental, behavioral, metabolic, cardiovascular, and cancer-related health as priority areas for this new research cohort.
