APOE Genotype and p-tau217 Levels Aid in Predicting Cognitive Impairment Onset

New research published in The Lancet Neurology indicates that higher plasma phosphorylated tau 217 (p-tau217) concentrations and APOE-ε4 carrier status are associated with a greater risk of cognitive impairment. The study, a pooled analysis of seven multiethnic prospective cohort studies, found that plasma p-tau217 showed its strongest prognostic performance among APOE-ε4 carriers, suggesting its utility in predicting who may develop cognitive impairment sooner.
