FDA Clears Novel Muscle-Targeted Therapy for Spinal Muscular Atrophy

The FDA has approved Isembyld (apitegromab), a new muscle-targeted therapy for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in patients aged two and older already on SMN2-targeted treatment. This marks a significant advance as it is the first therapy to directly address muscle loss in SMA, a genetic illness causing progressive muscle weakening. The approval, based on Phase 3 data showing motor function improvement, offers a new treatment option for this debilitating condition.
