FDA Approves Ameluz Photodynamic Therapy as Nonsurgical Treatment for Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride topical gel (Ameluz) in combination with photodynamic therapy (PDT) using the BF-RhodoLED lamp series for adults with superficial basal cell carcinoma. This marks the first FDA-approved photodynamic therapy for a skin cancer, offering a nonsurgical, tissue-sparing treatment option.
