Large Study Explores Blood Pressure Response During Extreme Heat Exposure

A study involving 4.2 million patient visits found that extreme heat exposure was associated with slightly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure on the day of the encounter and the day prior. While acute blood pressure changes are unlikely to be the primary link between extreme heat and cardiovascular risk, the findings suggest other physiological pathways may play a larger role, necessitating further research.
