The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has released findings from a public health investigation, identifying a water feature at a community-based organization in Durham as the most likely source of exposure for a previously reported rare brain infection caused by Naegleria fowleri. The water feature, which tested positive for the amoeba, was closed on August 28, 2026, and remains closed to the public.
