Eating 4-6 Servings of Wholegrain Daily Significantly Lowers Heart Disease Risk Factors
A new systematic review and meta-analysis published in the European Heart Journal indicates that consuming four to six servings of wholegrain foods daily can significantly reduce several major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The study, which analyzed data from 87 clinical trials involving over 6,500 people, found that higher wholegrain intake led to reductions in body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL ('bad') cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, and interleukin-6 (an inflammatory marker).
