Fiji Declares HIV a National Crisis Amid Sharp Rise in New Diagnoses

Fiji has declared HIV a national crisis following a 27% increase in new diagnoses last year, raising concerns that the epidemic is spreading beyond people who inject drugs. In 2025, 2,016 people were diagnosed with HIV, with an estimated one in 60 adults living with the disease. The government plans to expand access to free testing, prevention medicines, harm-reduction services, and treatment.
