New ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Codes Take Effect for U.S. Healthcare Billing

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has implemented new ICD-10-PCS procedure codes and the CDC has announced new ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, both effective October 1, 2026. These updates, which apply to patient encounters and discharges from today through September 30, 2027, introduce new codes for conditions like plantar fasciitis and hypoglycemia after bariatric surgery, and increase coding specificity for existing conditions.
