Trevogrumab Prevents Significant Muscle Loss During GLP-1 Agonist-Induced Weight Loss
New results from the Phase 2 COURAGE trial, presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting and in press with The Lancet, demonstrate that trevogrumab (an anti-GDF8/anti-myostatin therapy) prevented 70% of muscle loss associated with semaglutide treatment, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, in people with obesity. This finding suggests a potential strategy for preserving lean mass and muscle during weight loss, with Regeneron planning a Phase 2 trial in older adults with obesity and decreased muscle mass.
