Congo Ebola Outbreak Surpasses 5,000 Deaths; U.S. Implements New Travel Restrictions
The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), caused by the Bundibugyo virus, has now claimed over 5,000 lives out of more than 10,000 confirmed cases, making it the second deadliest in history. The disease has spread to eight provinces in the DRC, and cases have been confirmed in other African countries, including Kenya and Nigeria. In response, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require all international passengers flying to or through the United States to sign an attestation starting November 3, confirming they have not been in the DRC in the 21 days prior to their flight.
