Intensive Diet and Exercise Program Induces Type 2 Diabetes Remission in Over Half of Young Adults
A study published in *The Lancet Regional Health – Americas* found that an intensive lifestyle program, combining a low-energy diet with supervised exercise, led to type 2 diabetes remission in 54% of young adults (aged 18-45) with early-onset type 2 diabetes and obesity after 24 weeks. This significantly higher remission rate contrasts with only 4% in the usual care group. The RESET for Remission trial, conducted in Canada and the UK, also demonstrated improvements in liver fat, visceral fat, physical fitness, blood pressure, and mood among participants in the intervention group.
