CMS Releases Final 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System Rules

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its final rules for the 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). Key changes include reorganizing nuclear imaging APCs, assigning PET/CT services to clinical Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APCs) for more stable payments. Additionally, payment for drugs acquired through the 340B program will be reduced from Average Sales Price (ASP) plus 6% to ASP minus 28%, aligning with a recent drug acquisition cost survey.
