Beijing Confirms Deaths of Two Chinese Coast Guard Sailors in 2025 South China Sea Collision

Beijing has officially confirmed the deaths of two Chinese Coast Guard sailors, Yi Xinyu and Cheng Long, who died on August 11, 2025. The deaths occurred during a collision between a Chinese navy vessel and a coast guard ship in the South China Sea while pursuing a Philippine patrol boat. The sailors were posthumously honored as "martyrs."
