US forces strike three Iranian oil tankers after Navy warships targeted with ballistic missiles; Iran claims retaliation.
US Central Command reported striking three Iranian crude oil tankers, permanently disabling two and destroying a third, in response to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) firing ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships. Iran's IRGC subsequently claimed to have targeted three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three US-linked vessels elsewhere in retaliation. No US personnel were reported harmed in the Iranian missile attacks.
