Russia conducted a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine overnight into September 29, 2026, and through the morning, targeting Kyiv and the Odesa region with ballistic missiles and numerous jet-powered drones. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 109 aerial targets, including a Zircon/Oniks missile and two Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, along with 106 drones. Despite high interception rates, strikes were recorded at 24 locations, with debris falling in 16, damaging residential buildings, infrastructure, and an educational institution, and causing at least one injury in Kyiv and eight in Odesa. Two scientists were killed in a drone strike on the National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv on September 28.
