China's Liaoning aircraft carrier group sails near US-led Keen Sword exercise in Western Pacific

China's aircraft carrier Liaoning and three accompanying warships are sailing south of the Philippines, in the same broad area of the western Pacific where the US aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is operating with allied warships during the Keen Sword military exercise. The Liaoning group began its deployment on October 14, moving into the Pacific before heading towards the southern Philippines. The Keen Sword exercise, involving forces from the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, and France, runs from October 19 to 29.
