NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has gathered the most compelling evidence to date for the existence of "black hole stars." These are theorized to be rapidly accreting black holes encased in dense, hot gas cocoons. Spectroscopic data from GLIMPSE-17775 shows numerous spectral lines, suggesting a layered gas cocoon reprocessing light near the black hole.
