A research team, including the Nägerl group, has successfully quantum engineered "fractional Fermi seas," a highly unusual quantum state. Their study, published in Physical Review Letters, demonstrates that driving ultracold Cesium atoms out of equilibrium reveals a novel critical phase of matter.
