World's Largest Particle Smasher Halts Operations for Four-Year Upgrade
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is scheduled to cease operations on Monday for a four-year renovation period to transform it into the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). This major upgrade aims to significantly increase collision capacity, allowing scientists to collect up to 100 times more data in the hunt for dark matter and other fundamental physics mysteries. The enhanced accelerator is slated to resume operations in June 2030.
