Robotic Mission Launched to Save Swift Space Telescope

A new robotic servicing spacecraft, named LINK, has been launched by NASA with the objective of boosting the orbit of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. The Swift telescope was at risk of re-entering Earth's atmosphere due to increased drag from recent solar activity. This mission represents a significant advancement as it is the first commercial robotic attempt to service an uncrewed NASA spacecraft not originally designed for on-orbit maintenance, aiming to extend its operational lifespan.
