Satellite Data Connects Algal Blooms to Drought Conditions in Colorado Reservoir
Researchers have used NASA satellite data to establish a link between harmful algal blooms in Colorado's Blue Mesa Reservoir and specific environmental factors. The study indicates that these blooms are more prevalent when water levels are below 7,470 feet and temperatures exceed 19.5 degrees Celsius. These conditions are currently exacerbated by a 30-year low in water levels due to ongoing drought in the western U.S.
