Bird Flocks Avoid Collisions Through Individual Balance, Study Finds

New research published in *Physical Review E* suggests that the ability of bird flocks to avoid collisions is linked to individual birds maintaining a perfect balance, without a bias towards left or right. This "handedness" phenomenon helps explain why flocks eventually disperse under less than ideal conditions.
