Stellar-Mass Black Hole Discovered in Omega Centauri Cluster

Using data from both the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes, astronomers have identified the first stellar-mass black hole within the Omega Centauri globular cluster. This finding, published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, offers new insights into black hole formation in dense star environments. The black hole, named oMEGACat BH-2, is part of a binary system with an unusually long orbital period and a lower-than-anticipated mass.
