Webb Telescope Uncovers Hidden Giant Exoplanet Beta Pictoris d
Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have identified a previously hidden giant exoplanet, Beta Pictoris d, within its star system. This discovery is notable as it's the first directly imaged exoplanet found primarily through moderate-resolution spectroscopy, by detecting its unique atmospheric chemical signature. The planet, estimated to be at least twice Jupiter's mass, was obscured by a bright debris disk, and the findings were published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
