Researchers have identified a natural brain protein called SORLA that may act as a powerful defense against the toxic tau tangles associated with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. A study published in Science Advances found that mice with extra SORLA had less tau accumulation, reduced brain atrophy, and healthier neuronal connections, while those lacking SORLA experienced more severe damage. The findings also suggest a potential drug target to control harmful activity in supporting brain cells.
