JWST Uncovers Previously Undetected Giant Exoplanet in Beta Pictoris System

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has identified a new giant exoplanet, Beta Pictoris d, within the well-studied Beta Pictoris system. This discovery was made by detecting atmospheric traces of carbon monoxide, water vapor, and methane, rather than through direct imaging, showcasing a novel method for finding elusive exoplanets, particularly in dusty environments. Beta Pictoris d is the third known giant planet in this system and is estimated to be at least twice the mass of Jupiter.
