Prescribed Burns Dramatically Improve Giant Sequoia Survival in Wildfires

A new study published in Nature Communications highlights the effectiveness of prescribed burns in protecting giant sequoias from extreme wildfires. The research indicates that sequoias in areas subjected to controlled burns were nearly four times more likely to survive the intense fires of 2020 and 2021. This suggests that widespread application of such practices could save thousands more of these iconic trees.
