NOAA to Transition Weather Prediction Models to Cloud Infrastructure

NOAA announced its plan to transition operational weather prediction models, including the Global Forecast System and Global Ensemble Forecast System, to a new cloud environment. This strategic move aims to enhance adaptability for scientific innovation, enable rapid updates, increase system resilience, and provide on-demand computing power, which is particularly crucial during events like tropical storm season. The full transition is expected to be completed by December 2027.
