CERN Contributes Steel for Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) in First Non-European Infrastructure Investment

The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), hosted by Fermilab in Illinois, is receiving 10 million pounds of structural steel from CERN. This marks CERN's first investment in infrastructure for an experiment outside Europe. The steel is being lowered nearly a mile underground to construct frames for two massive cryogenic tanks, a critical step in building the world's largest scientific project supported by the Department of Energy's Office of Science.
