Probiotic metabolite improves gut health and HIV treatment in primate study.

Scientists at UC Davis Health identified 10-hydroxystearic acid (10-HSA), a probiotic metabolite, that repairs gut damage from HIV infection. In a nonhuman primate model, this discovery significantly enhanced the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy, offering a potential new strategy to improve HIV/AIDS treatment outcomes.
