Hubble Reveals Star Formation in Andromeda Galaxy is Winding Down

A new study utilizing data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope indicates that star formation in the nearby Andromeda galaxy has experienced a 500-million-year decline, with an even steeper drop in the last 40 million years. Andromeda, a spiral galaxy comparable in size to our Milky Way, is currently forming stars at a rate of approximately one-fifth the mass of our Sun per year, a significant decrease from 500 million years ago when it formed stars at about one solar mass per year.
