NSF Funds UCLA-Led Team to Develop Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computer Design

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $4 million in funding to a UCLA-led team of physicists, engineers, and computer scientists. The team will develop a design for a fault-tolerant quantum computer based on trapped atomic ions, aiming to overcome hypersensitivity to the environment that causes errors in current quantum computing and enable long, reliable calculations.
