Family Ties Influence Social Behavior in Bull Sharks, New Research Reveals

New research from the University of Exeter, Fiji Shark Lab, and Lancaster University indicates that bull sharks exhibit a subtle preference for associating with their relatives. Using genetic data and six years of observations at Shark Reef Marine Reserve, scientists found that while most sharks are not closely related, individuals are slightly more likely to socialize with kin, a phenomenon termed 'kinfluence.' This discovery challenges the perception of sharks as solitary animals and highlights the complex social networks within their populations.
