Colossal hidden magma system discovered beneath Tuscany, revealing insights into volcanic activity and mineral deposits

An international team of scientists has detected a massive, previously unknown magma reservoir, approximately 6,000 cubic kilometers in volume, buried 8 to 15 kilometers beneath Tuscany. This discovery, made using seismic imaging and published in Communications Earth & Environment, demonstrates how enormous volcanic systems can exist without obvious surface indicators and could aid in the search for geothermal energy, lithium, and rare earth elements.
