Europe's Forests Show Increased Biomass Loss Since 2018, Study Reports

A new study supported by the European Space Agency's Climate Change Initiative indicates that European forests have experienced greater biomass loss since 2018 than previously estimated. This decline, driven by droughts, windstorms, and insect infestations, is hindering forest regrowth. The research, published in National Science Review, projects a 39% reduction in carbon absorption capacity by 2030, posing a significant challenge to climate change mitigation efforts.
