Study Suggests Neptune's Inner Moons Formed from Destruction of Earlier System

A new study, utilizing data from the James Webb Space Telescope, proposes that Neptune's inner moons, including Larissa, Galatea, and Proteus, are remnants of a previous system of moons. This earlier system was likely destroyed during the capture of Neptune's largest moon, Triton, billions of years ago.
