Vera C. Rubin Observatory Captures Over Half a Million Galaxies in a Single Image

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has released a new image of the COSMOS field, revealing more than 500,000 galaxies. This preview demonstrates the observatory's capability to capture vast cosmic landscapes, which will be repeatedly observed over a decade to track supernovae, flaring black holes, and other dynamic cosmic events. The image provides an unprecedented clear window into the distant universe, including galaxies whose light has traveled for approximately 12 billion years.
