Vera C. Rubin Observatory Releases First Exceptionally Deep Image of the COSMOS Field

The NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile has released an exceptionally deep image of the COSMOS field, revealing over half a million galaxies. This patch of sky, previously observed by Hubble and Webb, offers an unimpeded view of galaxies outside the Milky Way. The image showcases an astonishing variety of galaxy shapes and sizes, with some so distant that their light has traveled for billions of years. The observatory will continue to monitor this field as part of its ten-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time.
