AI Designs Novel Functional Viruses Capable of Infecting Bacteria

Stanford University and Arc Institute researchers utilized generative AI to design new bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria. Of hundreds of AI-generated designs, 16 were synthesized and confirmed viable, successfully infecting and destroying E. coli. This synthetic biology advancement offers potential for developing new therapies against antibiotic-resistant infections.
