Miniature Plasma Whirlpools Observed on Solar Surface

Scientists, using the NSF Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope and advanced computer simulations, have detected tiny plasma whirlpools, some as small as 20 kilometers, swirling across the Sun's surface. This observation offers critical insights into how the Sun stores, transports, and explosively releases magnetic energy. The discovery could help explain phenomena like nanoflares and the rapid spread of magnetic fields through the solar atmosphere.
